Just a quick update
I spent the better part of the last six months looking for apartments in western europe with focus on the Netherlands, France and Spain. I have also been researching the logistics of buying a car in these countries. Meanwhile our lease in the Jersey City apartment came to an end and we moved in with our son’s family (he has an extra apartment in his rented townhouse in Jersey City). Alice and I had decided to make the move to europe in September. We were on the verge of signing a contract for a beautiful house in the south of France, we were waiting for the owner to email us the contract and for some reason it was delayed. The night before I was supposed to get it I laid awake thinking about all of the issues related to our move. Alice needs to get some more physical therapy from her hip surgery, she also is in the process of correcting cataracts, and I may need to go shopping for a knee or two in the near future. Additionally, we are growing more attached to those pesky grandkids and my mother is 94 years.
So the following morning I wrote the owner of the house and excused myself for cancelling the contract. Sure I could have gotten all this stuff done in europe but it is much easier here in the USA because we are already registered with Medicare and the secondary insurance. Going to europe would have required waiting months to get registered in the French health system. The task was too daunting to consider so for now we remain New Jerseyans.
I bought a second hand (actually probably more like third or fourth hand) Mini Countryman (that is the giant Mini Cooper) so that we are free to travel whenever we want.
